When Dave Salvant, Co-Founder & President of Squire Technologies, launched tech startup Squire in 2016, he wanted to help barbershops achieve greater success by streamlining operations. What he didn’t anticipate was a global pandemic hitting a few years after launching that would immobilize their customer-base for months.

After seeing their net revenue drop to zero in March 2020, when barbershops across the country were forced to close, the Black-owned tech company has tripled its valuation from $85 million to $250 million with the help of investors in its latest round of funding.

As the legal cannabis industry has expanded across the US over the past decade, green is the most prominent color seen in this space. In addition to the color of the flower, sales are projected exceed $30 billion in the US by 2023 and legal cannabis is said to support over 240,000 American jobs.

The colors that aren’t seen as frequently in the industry are black and brown. In an attempt to counter this history of disparity, many states and cities have implemented social equity programs in connection to the legalization of medical or adult cannabis use.
